It’s been a long few years with my hair. Even as I write this, I am still struggling with getting it to where I want it to be. I hesitated to even write this post since my hair has been giving me grief yet again, but I think that there is beauty in the struggle, even with some as trivial as a hair journey.
It all started with a stressful time in my life. I was changing jobs and had a health scare all at once. The toll it took came out on my hair, and I am still rising from the wreckage of it all. My hair broke off in tons of places and it just did not want to grow. If there was one thing I knew, it was that I wanted to fix it. So I sprung into action and have made some changes that I do feel are helping.First up: LAYERS.
Right now I have layers in my hair so we can cut more off of it every time I do get a cut. Layers allow for an interior haircut which gets rid of damage and broken off ends while still allowing length overall. Truth be told, I HATE layers, but I do know right now it is helping in the long run. The cut I am DYING to get back to is this one.
Next, GO NATURAL.
I highlight my hair only once maybe twice per year, but when my hair takes a hit, or I’m trying to get it to grow, I lay off the dye and/or highlights. I haven’t lightened my hair since the summer and I am finally heading to get that done next week. I am SO NERVOUS. I do worry about the damage, but it is darker than it has been in years and it just doesn’t feel like me right now. Because of this, I’m going to roll the dice and just do it, then lay off the heat for a while after that.
I already have a very clean, healthy diet, so I needed a few extra boosts to try and strengthen my hair and to bring it back to life. I did my research as I always do and these are the tips I found most useful.
I keep telling myself it’s a process and eventually I will be back to where I want to be. For now I look forward to my good hair days and just try to be patient.
